Our store, Boutiques de Maputo, has had a successful 17 years at the Maputo International Airport before moving to the new Maputo International Airport.
At the new airport, we have a duty free shop with an area of 270 square metres. We have opened Cafe Alex in the Departures Lounge to serve passengers on international flights. We have also launched a CIP (Commercial Important Person) Lounge for business class passengers.

Are you expecting more tourists in the wake of the 2011 Pan-African Games being held in Maputo? How will this impact your business?
On average, air traffic to Mozambique is about 500,000 to 600,000 passengers. For the Pan African Games, which is slated to take place from September 3-18, we hope to cater to 7,000 people, including athletes, coaches, officials and journalists. Estimates made by the government indicate a total of 30,000 tourists who will visit our country over the year.
What are Boutique de Maputo’s revenue figures for the year? Have you seen growth in comparison with 2010?
Revenue has been growing steadily over the year. As per our findings, our store at the new airport is in a good location, that offers attractive space and ample exposure to our products. The future looks very bright.
Which are the product categories that have fared well this year?
There are many categories that have done well over the course of the year. These include perfumes, cashew nuts, cosmetics, beverages and cigarettes.
What are the company’s growth forecasts for 2011?
We expect a growth of around 30 per cent this year. To achieve this goal, we are equipping the shops effectively to ensure that there is no disruption of product sales to customers during the Pan African Games.
Do you have any special promotions planned for the holiday season (December) to boost sales?
We are still working on a plan to introduce coffrets during the holiday season so that we are able to create an attractive and captivating product offering for everyone.
