Frankfurt Airport Opens First Fully Ventilated Smoking Lounge

The wait is over -- the first new Camel-brand smoking lounge measures 65 square meters and is located in Terminal B-East. It will soon be followed by nine more smoking facilities with a total area of almost 1,000 square metres.

"Frankfurt Airport serves over 56 million passengers a year, of whom we can expect at least 12 million to be adult smokers. For both travellers and the airport, this will be a world-class customer service facility, which will significantly enhance the traveller's experience at the airport," says David Francis, General Manager and Vice President of JTI's Worldwide Duty Free business.

Frankfurt Airport introduced smoking areas for adult smokers based on the JTI concept in 2005 and has since kept pace with all important JTI developments in this field. The new fully ventilated lounges are the result of a close working relationship between JTI and the airport.

Responsibility for the service-sponsoring concept was assigned to Media Frankfurt, a subsidiary of Fraport AG specializing in such projects. For Frankfurt Airport, it is important to offer a solution in the form of dedicated smoking facilities, which satisfies all airport users, says a statement by the airport. Airports can offer adult smokers the benefit of a dedicated, comfortable, purpose-built facility without disturbing non-smokers in the vicinity. Thus, the needs of all airport users are carefully respected, adds the statement.

As with all JTI's latest, purpose-built smoking lounges, the new facilities at Frankfurt Airport are designed and equipped to allow adult smokers to smoke in comfort before they move on into the main lounge area -- relaxed and ready to enjoy the wider facilities in the departure zone.

The new smoking lounges will improve the range of services offered by Frankfurt Airport and thus make it more attractive for all passengers.
