Toffee Bear, Puddles Dog and Scratch Cat (available in three sizes) now come with a felt Travelling Together tag which allows you to write a ‘to and from’ message. “The idea is that these adorable characters become a travel companion for young and old alike,” says Scorpio Director of Sales – Travel Retail Garry Stoner. “It’s all about offering something that’s a little different and a little unique. By including the travelling together gift tag on each character, we’re aiming to create a sense of belonging between the owner and the plush. Wherever they go, Toffee, Puddles or Scratch goes too.”
Scorpio also introduces three new bright and cheerful rag dolls – Daisy, Lily and Poppy – and two new scented Bears – mint and cotton candy. And, a fun camel hand puppet.
Scorpio is confident about the potential for children’s items in travel retail. “Children’s items offer the perfect opportunity for impulse and incremental sales, not detracting from other category purchases at all. This is an important factor – one which more and more retailers are beginning to understand,” continues Stoner. “Plush toys - such as those in our Just range - are timeless gifts or perfect as self-purchase items, representing great value and ease of purchase. Similarly, our watch-based gift sets – just for in-flight and Time Design for ground shops – are perfect gifts for older children and suitable for many different buying occasions.
.“Retailers are realising that children’s items can generate additional sales and do not take away from other categories. Although values may not be as high as other categories, the percentage of travellers either with children or looking for guilt purchases for children is high,” he adds.
